FHM Analysis
On this cover there is a photograph of a completely nude woman. Below her the text reads ' Why naked protests are just amateur porn' which demeans the meaning of why they're protesting- women are not taken seriously. This woman is standing in a particular way so her sexual organs are not visible .
Homefront Trailer Analysis- representation of men
Jason Statham's character is the alpha male as he is very masculine. He is the typical macho man, shaved head, tattoos etc. His violent actions are passed onto his daughter as when she hits the boy bullying her it gives us the impression she is just going to let him bully her and it alarms us when she retaliates.
Cagney and Lacey (cab drivers)
The women are presented in an authoritative way but see to gain no respect from it. When one of the women is arguing with her husband, he dismisses her heroism and says that no one wants to hear about her 'saving the people of New York'. She is then later presented as the stereotypical motherly figure as when her son had a bad dream, he shouted for his mum and not his dad.
The portrayal of women in this episode is very mixed and sees both sides of women representation.

Week 6: Production report
I've near enough completed the filming and editing process of my video. I now need to fix the imperfections, add effects etc. I am to have a finished product by the end of this week.

Production Report
I have now filmed 70% of my video and am beginning the editing process. I have made a draft video and am aware of what changes I need to make and what I can improve on.
I plan on filming each weekend until I am satisfied that I have completed all the filming I feel is required to make my video.
I have a clear view in my head of what I wish my video to look like and I am confident that I will be able to achieve this.
So far I have used a variety of camera angles to represent either the protagonist's lack of authority or her psychological state. I have also used framing to represent her mind set by keeping her on the right side of the frame when she isn't in reality and is only dreaming or having flashbacks.

Textual Analysis: Music Video
Enter Shikari - The Paddington Frisk
Clothing:
The band are wearing normal, casual clothing for the society in Britain. The Japanese girl is wearing casual Japanese clothing however they are very different as it shows the two worlds colliding.
Lighting:
There is very high key lighting which is a popular convention of Japanese styles.
Editing:
The editing is very fast pace and it's fairly hard to grasp what is occurring in the video as there is a lot of cutting. The use of the fast pace represents the chaotic atmosphere in Tokyo. Bright flashes of light are used in the duration, which again, is another Japanese convention.
Colours:
There are very bright colours used throughout the entirety of this video which supports the Japanese convention.

This video is set in a studio filled with Japanese 'Kawaii' settings such as the bright colours on the walls and

Camera work:
In the beginning of the video, it shows a male and a female talking. A 2 person shot is used here to show how close they are to each other but it's felt too close for comfort as the girl is backing away slightly and then pushing him away. Hand held camera is used frequently from a low angle to show dominance in the main character. Also the camera wavers quite carelessly to mirror what the character is seeing and his psychological state due to the drugs.
Clothing:
Punk clothing. The clothes are quite dirty to show they're poor and possibly homeless, they stay in the same clothes all the time.
Lighting:
Natural light is used a lot when the scenes are outside. Low key lighting with blue and neon lights are used in the party scenes.
Sound:
Diegetic and non diegetic sound is used in this video. It begins with diegetic sound, with dialogue and then the music starts playing when the main character kicks something in time with the first strum of the guitar to emphasise the movement.
Editing:
Slow motion is used a lot in this video, often when the main character is walking and in scene where they're at parties. This mirrors the effects the drugs the characters are taking.
Mise-En-Scene:
When in the main character's room, there are lyrics of other Green Day songs painted on the walls and posters of the band. Also when he is in the 7/11 toilet, he paints lyrics onto the walls and mirror.

Progress Report:Week 1
In this first week I have created a questionnaire and have planned out the main outline as to what my music video will be and the techniques I will use within it. I have textually analysed many videos, focussing on the editing and the camera work and thinking about how I can apply similar work to my own video.
Textual Analysis: Music Video
Sing - My Chemical Romance
Clothing:
Bright, futuristic, uniformed clothing to show that it's a war not set in this or a previous time period.
Masks on the faces on one of the groups of people- the 'bad' people showing that they're hiding their true identity which is seen as cowardly.
One character is wearing an eye patch which tells the viewers this is a sequel to a previous video as there has been previous conflict.
Lighting:
Low key with a blue film- futuristic and science-like. The bad characters are often in the shadows to show their evil potential.
Camera work:
The pace is kept fairly quick throughout the video. There are a mix of long, mid and close up shots. The characters walk down corridors and in straight paths for a lot of this video, this is where tracking is used. During the conflict scene, the camera keeps cutting to the little girl shielding her ears because she does not want to be a part of it or hear what's going on around her.
Editing:
There is a lot of slow motion used throughout which ironically speeds up the feel of the video and makes the viewer aware of the other things happening whilst the conflict is occurring.

Textual Analysis: Music Video
Lighting:
Fill light is used often throughout this video to focus on the main character and black out the others.
In the middle of the video when the main character is the the casket, half of his face is in shadow and half in light which shows he might not be all the purity and good he seems and cannot be trusted.
The video ends with a shadow or silhouette cast on a very bright background which is showing him dying typically with him 'going into the light'. The brighter light will be a better place to go as the lighting throughout the video has mainly been low key.
Colours:
White used on the main character to show purity. The colours are kept fairly plain but bright. Black and white are key throughout the video to show the contrast of good and bad.
Framing:
Throughout the video, the main character is framed in many different scenes. The chaos going on around him is only shown minimally but the viewers are aware of its occurrence.
Music Video: Textual Analysis
Lighting:
Tinted high key lighting to show a warm atmosphere which supports the fairytale theme.
Colours:
Autumnal colours- Browns, Oranges, Reds.
Things die in autumn time which supports the idea that the little girl is falling into the grave to die.
Camera Work:
Soft focus to centre of the screen to focus on the main character of the shot and to perfect the character's looks.
Framing:
Frames the little girl to show she's centre of attention and the main character in this video.

Race In A TV Show
This has a negative and a positive representation of race as one student is asking the other if his father gave him the stereotypical 'you're going to be a failure' for taking media. By saying this he is agreeing with the stereotype that all Arabs go into a medical or politics/law profession. However in addition to this, it is showing that this student is fighting this particular stereotype by studying what he wants to.

Clothing- All wearing the same t-shirts to show they're part of a team
Lighting- Natural light, gives a naturalistc view on the band and what they're doing.
- Dark lighting when the scene cuts to the band performing, implying it's night time.
Product Placement- Rockstar Energy Drink, appeals to the target audience of the music genre.
Sexualised Women- these women are advertising the Rockstar Energy drink. They would also appeal to young people viewing this video.

Educating Yorkshire
Intended Audience:
Parents, teachers and students (senior school)
Uses Or Gratification:
I can relate to the personalities in this programme as it features teenagers of my age, in a school and coping with school life in a similar way as how I did. When watching this I can see how other schools act and the different approaches teachers take to students so I can compare to my school. It's also for entertainment purposes as we can mock some students as well as feel sorry for them.
